Fundamental properties of solutions to utility maximization problems in wireless networks

چکیده
We introduce a unified framework for the study of the utility and the energy efficiency of solutions to a large class of weighted max-min utility maximization problems in interferencecoupled wireless networks. In more detail, given a network utility maximization problem parameterized by a maximum power budget p̄ available to network elements, we define two functions that map the power budget p̄ to the energy efficiency and to the utility achieved by the solution. Among many interesting properties, we prove that these functions are continuous and monotonic. In addition, we derive bounds revealing that the solutions to utility maximization problems are characterized by a low and a high power regime. In the low power regime, the energy efficiency of the solution can decrease slowly as the power budget increases, and the network utility grows linearly at best. In contrast, in the high power regime, the energy efficiency typically scales as Θ(1/p̄) as p̄ → ∞, and the network utility scales as Θ(1). We apply the theoretical findings to a novel weighted rate maximization problem involving the joint optimization of the uplink power and the base station assignment.

Abstract Ad hoc Wireless Networks, are networks formed by a collection of nodes through radio. In wireless networking environment, formidable challenges are presented. One important challenge is connection maintenance mechanism for power consumption. In this paper, a multi-objective optimal design is considered for ad-hoc networks which address the electrical power of nodes effects on cross-l...
متن کاملPerformance Limits of Solutions to Network Utility Maximization Problems
We study performance limits of solutions to utility maximization problems (e.g., max-min problems) in wireless networks as a function of the power budget p̄ available to transmitters. Special focus is devoted to the utility and the transmit energy efficiency (i.e., utility over transmit power) of the solution. Briefly, we show tight bounds for the general class of network utility optimization pr...

In this contribution, we present a survey on the radio resource allocation techniques in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems. This problem goes back to 1960s and that is related to properly and efficiently allocate the radio resources, namely subcarriers and power. We start by overviewing the main open issues in OFD...
متن کاملA Novel Comprehensive Taxonomy of Intelligent-Based Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks
Routing in ad-hoc networks, specifically intelligent-based ones, is a highly interested research topic in recent years. Most of them are simulation-based study. Large percentages have not even mentioned some of the fundamental parameters. This strictly reduces their validity and reliability. On the other hand, there is not a comprehensive framework to classify routing algorithms in wireless sen...
متن کامل3D Path Planning Algorithm for Mobile Anchor-Assisted Positioning in Wireless Sensor Networks
Positioning service is one of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) fundamental services. The accurate position of the sensor nodes plays a vital role in many applications of WSNs. In this paper, a 3D positioning algorithm is being proposed, using mobile anchor node to assist sensor nodes in order to estimate their positions in a 3D geospatial environment. However, mobile anchor node’s 3D path optim...
